Head Space Daily Words...
This morning was a touch manic, sorting out costumes for World Book Day. Noah chose to go as Greg Heffley from Diary Of A Wimpy Kid, whose sole defining trait is three strands of hair sticking up on top of his head; whilst Joe went as Harry Potter, with a scar carefully drawn on to his forehead with my own fair hand. When I was a kid, I don't remember doing a great deal of reading and I certainly don't remember LOVING it. It always felt like a bit of a chore. Perhaps there just weren't the books out there. I can vaguely remember reading some of the Roald Dahl books and Famous Five was still out there but today the focus is entirely different. Reading in schools is hugely encouraged as a fun and enjoyable thing to do, which ensures kids don't view it in a negative way - as something nerdy - where kids are regarded as bookworms. World Book day has become a real celebration of literature, which can be an antidote to the obsession kids have with computer games. When it comes to a good book, my kids LOVE reading.
