Head Space Daily Words...


Laura Mvula’s album, Sing To the Moon, is one of those that you want to keep going back to. The big stand out tune and first single, Green Garden, doesn’t reflect the rest of the album, which is musically and vocally interwoven to perfection. A tune called Is There Anybody Out There has hints of Sun Ra’s Space Is The Place, then the song which follows, Father Father, comes across like a tune from Charlie Brown’s Christmas album in it’s simplicity, beauty and melancholy, (I’ve posted a live version of Father Father on today’ blog post.) It really is a unique sounding album and Laura Mvula’s classical training in the way she sings, the instruments used and the musical arrangements comes across strongly. The amount of space and time alongside intricate and sometimes soaring musical passages is spot on…
