Every
freelance worker will at some point embark on a home decorating mission and for
the last few days I have been painting my youngest son’s bedroom. It’s going to
look smart. The preparation before being able to paint is fairly tedious, but
throughout the whole process I have been listening to music, which is always a
pleasure, particularly as I am putting together the HSD Top 10 Albums Of The Year!!
As I was upstairs on Saturday afternoon, slapping on the matte emulsion, with
ubiquitous workman’s bum, the Christmas tree was being put up and decorated
downstairs by my boys (see Daily Image.) It is a nice tall slender model that
fits snugly into the corner of the living room. As the tree took pride of
place, my youngest son declared that Christmas had officially begun and indeed, you
can feel the excitement cranking up. School ends this week and thoughts are
turning to festive things, presents and vast amounts of food and drink. We’re
back on the mince pies today and I’m going to have to tear myself away from
the comfort of home tomorrow (and touching up paintwork) to drag myself out for
a run. In other news, it has been a game of man versus mouse this week, with
the pesky blighter eating the peanut butter off my perfectly primed traps and
remaining at large. Well, this morning I snared it using a glue trap, which is
a little cardboard tunnel with it’s floor covered in strong glue. One minute mousey
has the run of downstairs, waving two fingers, or rather flicking two whiskers
at our mousetraps, then suddenly, it can’t move – stuck, going nowhere. When I
checked the trap this morning, I was greeted by a wriggling furry behind. Bag
it, bin it. I am now a mouse killer. They say the first one is the hardest, well
bring it on my mousey friends, I am ready and waiting…
