In an age of technology and communication, with e mail, fax and courier, the faithful red post box still proudly stands on our street corners, as a pillar of society - allowing us to receive Christmas and birthday cards, credit card bills, items from ebay and for our children to send thank you notes to distant relatives. The post box has been around since Queen Victoria was on the throne and the character Penfold in popular kids cartoon series Dangermouse, who lived in a pillar box, was named after John Penfold, designer of a hexagonal shaped post box in the early 20th century.
